Used & Waste Tire RecyclingProper maintenance is the key to longer life for tires and reduces the number of tires being thrown away. The Rubber Manufacturers Association recommends:
Visit the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery’s (CalRecycle's) website: Tire Maintenance: Save Money and Protect Your Environment! Tire DisposalProper disposal of old tires is important because leaving tires laying around poses a danger to public health and safety. Tires are a fire hazard and they can become a breeding ground for rodents and insects. Used and waste tires can be taken to either of the two local transfer stations for recycling (call for fee structure):
Tires received at these facilities are sent to a recycling facility. State law limits the number of used and waste tires that can be hauled at one time without a valid and current waste and used tire hauler registration. The limit is nine (9) tires. Waste tire bin service is also available from Recology Yuba-Sutter and can be requested by calling (530) 743-6933. Occasionally, the Regional Waste Management Authority distributes free tire disposal vouchers under a state grant program. No vouchers are available at this time as the most recent grant program has been completed.
