Used & Waste Tire Recycling
Proper maintenance is the key to longer life for tires and reduces the number of tires being thrown away. The Tire Industry Safety Council recommends:
- Checking tire air pressure at least once a month and before every long trip.
- Checking tires for signs of uneven wear monthly. Uneven wear patterns may be caused by improper inflation pressures, misalignment, improper balance or suspension neglect.
- Regularly rotating your tires and checking tire alignment following the schedules in the vehicle owner's manual or every 6,000 miles.
- Following the manufacturer's vehicle loading recommendations, including baggage carried on top of any vehicle and towing trailers.
Proper disposal of old tires is important because leaving tires laying around poses a danger to public health and safety. Tires are a fire hazard and they can become a breeding ground for rodents and insects.
Used and waste tires can be taken to either of the two local transfer stations for recycling:
- Yuba-Sutter Disposal, Inc. Transfer Station
3001 North Levee Rd. Marysville, CA
(530) 743-6933
Hours: 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday - Sunday
- Ponderosa Transfer Station
Ponderosa Way Brownsville, CA
(530) 743-6933

Tires received at these facilities are sent to a recycling facility.
State law limits the number of used and waste tires that can be hauled at one time without a valid and current waste and used tire hauler registration.
Waste tire bin service is also available from Yuba-Sutter Disposal, Inc. and can be requested by calling (530) 743-6933.
Occasionally, the Regional Waste Management Authority distributes free tire disposal vouchers under a state grant program. No vouchers are available at this time as the most recent grant program has been completed.
