What is Organic Waste?

Examples of organic waste covered by SB 1383 include the following items collected in the local recycling and organics collection programs:

Organics Collection Program: plant materials such as grass, flowers, leaves, weeds, garden plants, landscape and pruning waste, food and food scraps such as fruit, vegetables, meat, bones, shells, dairy and leftovers and food-soiled paper such as paper towels, napkins and delivery pizza boxes.

Recycling Collection Program: paper products, cardboard and packaging, and printing and writing paper (newspaper, office paper, envelopes, magazines and catalogs, brochures and flyers, and other writing papers.

Bulky item Collection Program and Self-Haul: untreated and unpainted wood.
